Signs of end to French strike chaos
In France there are hopes for an end to the travel chaos brought on by a nationwide strike of transport workers. The workers are opposing the government's controversial pension plan reform, which would make public sector employers work longer for retirement pay. Two moderate unions, CFDT and CFE-CGC, are now backing an amended version of the plan, along with three employer groups. However, Frances' most powerful public sector unions have vowed to continue the strike; the General Labour Confederation (CGT) has refused to take part in any negotiations and the Workers' Force (FO) walked out of negotiations on Thursday.
