Clashes Over Jobs Kill 21 in India
Members of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) burned down a house killing 21 people from their rival, Center of Indian Trade Unions, in a battle over jobs at an Indian tea farm. Both groups clashed on Wednesday leading the Center of Indian Trade Unions to open fire on protesters from the INUTC, injuring one person. INTUC members then burned down the house of the leader of the Center of Indian Trade Unions. Tea farms provide employment to thousands of people in the area but many have been closed down in the past six months because of disputes over higher wages and job security.
