Union Set to Begin Boycott of L.A. Hotels
Leaders of the union Unite Here Local 11 are organizing a boycott of nine upscale Los Angeles-area hotels over an unresolved labor dispute. The Los Angeles Hotel Employers Council says that the union's strategy will hurt workers by sending business to nonunion hotels and thus cutting hours and tips. The main issue in negotiations has been the contract expiration date, with Unite Here leaders trying to increase bargaining power by having all local contracts expire at the same time.
