Labor issues, changes simmer
AFL-CIO President John Sweeney is calling on labor leaders to develop
proposals on how to restructure the labor movement. These solutions will
be discussed when organized labor gathers in Chicago for a meeting this
July. Andrew Stern, president of the Service Employees International
Union, has long been advocating dramatic changes in the labor movement.
Stern, who has threatened to pull his union out of the AFL-CIO, wants to
increase union bargaining power and numbers.
