AFL-CIO Chief to Seek 3rd Term as Labor Ponders Future
AFL-CIO President John J. Sweeney announced that he would seek reelection to a third term. The U.S. labor movement is in a period of crisis with union membership continuing to decline and the reelection of President Bush. Sweeney has promised comprehensive reforms to revitalize the labor movement. Sweeney can expect to be challenged by other union leaders pushing for more radical change.
