Grad-student walkout: first step to getting a union?
Teaching graduate students at Columbia are considering going on strike in order to obtain official recognition of their union by the administration and better working conditions. Many private universities, including Columbia, are opposed to unionization. They feel that graduate students are not employees and thus do not have the right to bargain collectively.
