As Textile Curbs Fall, Many Feel Hardship
Countries around the world are experiencing massive job losses and brewing labor unrest after the Jan. 1 expiration of a global textile quota system. They are finding it hard to compete with cheap exports from China and India. As a result many manufacturers are pressuring their governments to put restraints on imports of Chinese and Indian apparel and textiles.
