New Zealand apple growers bite back
New Zealand apple growers have taken to the streets of Wellington, their nation's capital, to protest an eighty-four year old trade dispute with Australia. Australia banned the import of New Zealand apples in 1921 after an outbreak of fireblight two years previously. The New Zealand growers have been trying to overturn that ban ever since, and, fed up with what they see as 'disguised protectionism,' they've taken to the streets. The dispute could make it all the way to the WTO, as no other remedies are available.
