The Workplace: Bad review? Speak up, carefully
Generally when an employee is given a poor grade by his or her boss during an annual performance review, it has not been seen as acceptable to question the bad marks. Now, however, experts maintain that speaking up about a bad review is not only ok, but should be encouraged. A New York University professor of human resources has provided examples of ways employees can challenge questionable decisions by their superiors, without alienating management or creating an even worse situation. The professor reminds employees that, though speaking up is ok, one must do it carefully and tactfully.
