Bay Area Rapid Transit Strike Deadline Set
The Bay Area Rapid Transit (or B.A.R.T) workers have declared that they will begin a strike on June 6 if they cannot agree a new contract with management. Union leaders announced the strike deadline Tuesday night after a hearing of four Bay Area county labor councils to consider whether to sanction a B.A.R.T strike. The last time the workers went on strike was in 1997, when the six-day walkout led to traffic headaches throughout the region.
