Foreign Workers Heard in Taiwan
Thai laborers sent to Taiwan to build a subway system told officials that they were treated like animals and had their rights violated, which led them to revolt and burn down their contractor's office. The scandal has rocked Taiwan, forcing the island to take a closer look at the underclass that does its dirty work. The workers allege that supervisors beat them, fined them for the slightest infraction and forced them to buy food at a company store at inflated prices.
