N.Y. Transit Union Boss Gets Jail, Fine
A New York City judge has ordered Transport Workers Union Local 100 President Roger Toussaint jailed for 10 days and fined $1,000 for criminal contempt for his role in the 2005 transit worker strike. The judge is also being asked by state lawyers to suspend the union's ability to collect dues from members and to levy up to $3 million in fines against the union. The penalties would cripple the union, according to Local 100 lawyers.
