Discontent in Dubai
The workers building Dubai's pristine new buildings and skyscrapers find themselves living in concrete barricks at the city's outskirts, working long hours for a pittance. They work for about $5 a day, sleep four or five to a room, and see their families once every two or three years. Strikes are illegal, and because there is no right of association, there are no trade unions.
