Revised `big-box' wage plan in works
Chicago officials are revising a measure that would impose a special minimum wage on Wal-Mart and other "big box" stores operating in the city. While the revision ? which would phase in the new minimum wage by 2010 rather than implementing it within the first five months ? is designed to appease the affected companies, some business leaders and politicians predict it would still lead to a refusal by retailers to operate within the city limits, and thus cost the city thousands of jobs.
