Jordan "dismayed" by U.S. labor, textile group case
The Jordanian government expressed dismay in the face of a decision by the AFL-CIO and the National Textile Association to file a request with the Bush Administration for formal trade litigation over what the organizations describe as violations of the U.S.-Jordan Free Trade Agreement. Government officials from the Middle Eastern nation claim that they have been taking action to correct the abuses of foreign workers -- which include 100-hour work weeks, denied wages, and beatings -- that were reported earlier this year by the National Labor Committee for Worker and Human Rights.
