Following in the footsteps of Gawker Media earlier this month, editorial employees at Salon.com declared their intent to unionize, a nascent trend in “new media” organizations that typically have remained union-free until now. Salon ownership still has to publically recognize the unionization effort, but it is expected that the left-leaning publication, traditionally supportive to labor issues, will not actively oppose the effort.
