NFLPA president: ‘Hard to imagine’ a new CBA with no changes to Roger Goodell’s role in discipline
The NFL Players Association is looking to address disciplinary issues at its next set of labor negotiations with the league, following the recent DeflateGate controversy with player Tom Brady. The quarterback’s recent appeal of his four-game suspension had been denied by the league, which cited “integrity-of-the-game provisions” as well as Brady’s lack of cooperation. The union hopes to implement a neutral arbitration authority in future contracts for disciplinary problems. The current contract, which expires in 2020, allows the league’s commissioner to both decide disciplinary procedures and resolve appeals against them.
