Amazon Boosts Holiday Hiring, Signaling Shift in Retail Jobs
On Tuesday, Amazon announced that it plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers to combat increased demand during the holiday season. This year, the company will hire 25% more workers than it did last year as more consumers shift to online shopping. The company has already hired 25,000 full-time employees this year. The National Retail Federation has estimated that holiday spending in 2015 will increase by 3.7%. This year, other stores such as Target, Wal-Mart and Macys will hire between 60,000 and 85,000 seasonal employees.
