Enlisting Veterans to Remedy the Shortage of Farmers
As a result of retirement, as many as a million jobs in farming will open up over the next several years that will need to be filled by other Americans. Several charities based out of California and Pennsylvania are helping to place veterans in farming positions. As of 2009, the unemployment rate for former veterans was only around 8%. However, these Americans often find it difficult to find employment, as the skill set they developed in the military is not applicable to many jobs within the private sector.
