Detroit's Big Three Accelerate Plans to Build More Small Cars in Mexico
In Detroit, "The Big Three" have announced that they will be accelerating their timeline for building more compact cars in Mexico in an effort to reduce labor costs. The automobile manufacturers will still continue to produce their luxury vehicles in the U.S. By 2020, Fiat Chrysler, GM and Ford are expected to produce 20% of their compact cars for North American consumers in Mexico. This shift to Mexico is also an effort for these U.S. auto manufacturers to compete with foreign competitors who have increased their level of production in Mexico, which has led to increased profit margins.
