Plan to Close Nuclear Plant in Upstate New York Rattles Its Neighbors
In Oswego, NY the two nuclear power plants recently announced that they will be closing. In Oswego county alone, utility companies employ more than 1,600 of the residents. One of the power plants, FitzPatrick, has 600 employees who earn an average salary of more than $120,000 a year. That average wage is more than double what other industries in the county pay. The closing plants will also affect local businesses. One motel in the town gets 30% of its business from the temporary workers employed by the plants.
