France's Government Forced to Delay Contested Labor Reform
On Monday, the French government decided that it would delay making a decision on whether it would increase the country's workweek above 35 hours until March 24th. In 2000, a bill was passed establishing this 35 hour week, however there are clauses that allow companies to increase the hours an employee works up to 60 per week under "exceptional circumstances". Those in favor of lengthening the workweek believe it could reduce unemployment levels, however many unions believe workers could lose their rights as a result.
