Teachers Union: Furlough Days ‘All but Assures’ Strike April 1
On Thursday, Chicago Public Schools announced that all of its employees will take 3 unpaid furlough days this year. The days, March 25 (Good Friday), June 22, and June 23 were chosen to “minimize disruptions to learning,” according to schools' chief Forrest Claypool. This action has resulted in the teacher’s union warning of an all but certain strike beginning April 1st. The tensions in the Chicago school district initially arose due to a proposed 7 percent cut in teacher’s pensions.
