Guitar Center Strikes Sour Note with ALJ
A judge recently ruled that Guitar Center Stores Inc. refused to bargain in good faith on labor contract proposals for their workers. The company had apparently stalled for two years by taking months to propose counter-offers to contracts and never including health insurance policies in those counterproposals. Guitar Center officials also utilized only “surface bargaining” which violates the National Labor Relations Act. The regional director in Chicago for NLRB for region 13, Peter Sung Ohr, first filed a complaint against the company in July 2015 stating that Guitar Center had threatened to take away benefits of workers with union membership.
