National Living Wage ‘has not hit employment’
Despite warnings from economists, the UK’s introduction in April of the National Living Wage has not affected employment levels. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development had recently stated concerns that the wage increase would lead to high numbers of job loss. In fact, the number of people employed has risen by almost five million since the 1990 creation of the first minimum wage. The living wage is now set at £7.20 an hour, and with the goal to increase to £9 by 2020.
