Franchise Technology May Tip Scales in Joint Employer Cases
Recently, the influence franchisers have over the technology franchises use is being seen as related to the question of joint employment in court cases. In many circumstances, franchisers like McDonald's and Domino's Pizza give technology to individual franchises, which directly effects the employee's workplace conditions. The NLRB is currently facing several noteworthy cases concerning fast-food establishments. Depending on the outcome of the cases, if franchisers were identified as joint employers, they could share blame with the franchisee in unfair labor practice charges.
