The National Basketball Association and its players’ union reached an agreement yesterday, ahead of today’s deadline. The seven year deal must be ratified by January 13th. Highlights of the deal include loosening the definition of “basketball related income”, which will increase the amount of revenue the players and owners will split, as well as decreasing the amount of back-to-back games. This was the first collective bargaining agreement between Michele A. Roberts, head of the players’ union, and Adam Silver, the NBA’s commissioner. The 2011 negotiations resulted in a 5 month lockout and shortened season.
