UK airport staff call off 48-hour strike, union says
Unite has called off its Christmas Eve strike against Swissport, an aviation services company. Over 1,500 baggage handlers and check-in employees were scheduled to strike over better pay and working conditions after union members rejected a pay raise that "barely" mimicked inflation. Acas, a conciliation service, conducted talks that resulted in the holiday strike being cancelled. Unite is also representing British Airways' cabin crews, who are still scheduled to strike on both Christmas and Boxing Day.
