Rauner files unfair labor charge against AFSCME
Governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner, is suing the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees for $2 million. The Rauner administration filed the unfair labor practice suit against the AFSCME, which represents over 38,000 of the state's employees, after two days of unsuccessful contract negotiations. The union believes that this was an intimidation tactic, but Rauner's administration argues that the union is costing Illinois 2 million taxpayer dollars through its failure to accept the proposed contract. The union members are fighting for a 10% annual wage increase and for the administration to cover 100% of their healthcare costs.
