Boeing workers in South Carolina vote against union
South Carolina Boeing workers voted not to unionize on Wednesday. Of the 2,800 workers who voted, 74% voted against unionization. The South has a very low rate of union membership, and South Carolina, with only 1.6% of employees in unions, has the least of any state in the U.S. Prior to the vote, anti-union commercials were promoted on local television channels, including during the Superbowl. Some economists argue that the lack of unions has helped South Carolina grow economically, and others fear that unions will increase division within the workplace. President Trump will visit Boeing on Friday to unveil the company's Dreamliner 787 plane.
