Penn State graduate assistants file for union representation
After a year of deliberation, Penn State graduate students have arranged to vote on whether or not to unionize. All 3,700 graduate students will be eligible to vote on the matter. According to the CGEPSU, the university currently makes decisions about salaries and benefits with little input from the students themselves. CGEPSU distributed letters to the university, staff, and alumni requesting that they remain neutral as the vote moves forward. Penn State responded with their view that graduate assistants are primarily there to learn and grow as students.
