Telemundo actors vote overwhelmingly to join SAG-AFTRA
Telemundo actors have voted to unionize under SAG-AFTRA. Over 80% of eligible voters chose to become part of the union during the four week voting period that began on February 7. 124 Telemundo actors were allowed to vote, chosen by the length of time they spent working on television shows for the network. The TV Network Telemundo, now owned by NBCUniversal, is the largest employer of Spanish language actors in the United States. Although the network representatives have expressed disappointment in the outcome, they are willing to begin negotiating with the union. According to SAG-AFTRA, Telemundo workers are currently paid half of their English-language counterparts.
