Dialysis Center Worker Fired for Speech, SEIU Says
SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West has filed a complaint with the NLRB, alleging a patient care technician at a California DaVita dialysis clinic was fired for his support of the Dialysis Patient Safety Act. Emerson Padua was fired the day after he spoke at a May 24th rally supporting the bill, which would mandate increased staffing and inspections at dialysis clinics in California. In addition, the union believes Padua's dismissal came in retaliation for his support of the union's organization efforts at DaVita. The company denied the allegations, stating that the decision to fire Padua had been made before his speech at the rally.
