Can an app get victims to anonymously report workplace harassment?
The Upright Citizens Brigade has developed Callisto, an app designed to make it easier for victims to report harassment and/or assault. After an incident at UCB last year, leaders started to believe that a hotline was no longer sufficient for reporting misconduct. The hope is that people will find an app less intimidating than the hotline, as victims are often too scared of retaliation to come forward. Additionally, because they may not know what constitutes harassment, they are likely to do nothing about the problem, according to a labor and employment lawyer who went on to state that reporting a problem is the least common response for victims of workplace harassment. Colleges and other workplaces are now using Callisto, as well as other harassment-reporting apps.
