Pearson ground crew workers reject offer, begin strike
Almost 700 workers went on strike at the Toronto Pearson International Airport after rejecting what their employers called a "final contract offer." The Teamsters union, which represents the striking workers, has said that Swissport is attempting to push for an unfair contract. The contract would freeze wages for three years for most of the workers, impose a minimum of 30 hours worked in order for workers to qualify for benefits, and allow Swissport to change workers' schedules at least four days in advance. Pearson is Canada's busiest airport, but neither authorities nor workers expect there to be any effect on the airport's day to day operations. Many of the 30 airlines serviced by Swissport have prepared for the strike and a potential walk-out, while workers have clarified they hope to have little to no impact on the public
