Cuomo signs bill that gives unions more power to recruit members
On Thursday, Governor Cuomo signed a bill that will strengthen unions in New York even if the Supreme Court rules against organized labor in the high-stake Janus case. The bill would ease Unions’ ability to recruit members and allow them to deny services to people who refuse to join. City and State governments will have to notify the union within a month after a new employee is hired and provide them with their name, work location, and home address. They will then be allowed 30 days to meet with the employee during work hours to speak about the benefits of unionization. Unions would also be allowed to deny free lawyers, insurance, discount programs, or civil service exam test prep to employees who chose not to join.
