Macedonian Union Members Protest Poor Labor Conditions
Hundreds of union members congregated outside of the Macedonian government building in Skopje this May Day to protest poor working conditions. The rally, led by the National Federation of Trade Unions, was to urge the government to pass legislation that strengthen collective bargaining rights. Specifically, the trade federation is speaking out against large fines imposed by debt collectors, which are blocking people from accessing their bank accounts. An independent union of journalists also joined the protest to demand better working conditions and salaries.
