Labor - Liberal Coalition Loses Key Member
When a coalition of liberal and labor strategists banded together to instill discipline on Democratic lawmakers, the toe-the-line message ended up stubbing some toes. A top official at the American Association for Justice, formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association, withdrew from the coalition, citing a misunderstanding over the group's mission. The new organization, operating with a PAC called Working for Us and a nonprofit group called They Work For Us, is designed to press Democrats to stick together on populist economic issues. Organizers made it clear that those who stray too far could face a primary challenge from more progressive Democrats, a warning that raised eyebrows among some party strategists.
