Chrysler labor case headed to arbitration
The National Labor Relations Board announced this week that an unfair labor practice charge filed by the UAW local representing Chrysler Belvidere assembly plant workers will go to arbitration. The charge relates to the company's use of 600 temporary workers to fill three shifts at the plant. Union officials charge that the company has pulled an end run on rules stipulating the guaranteed length of temporary contracts, giving the employees less security, lower pay, less medical benefits, and lower bonus levels.
