Unions chided by Daley
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, whose once solid relationship with organized labor has frayed, and an alderman targeted for defeat by union leaders contended Tuesday that union-built houses are too expensive for home buyers with modest incomes. Daley and Alderman Shirley Coleman spoke at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a city-subsidized Englewood residential development built by non-union tradesmen. Meanwhile, three other aldermen whose political opponents have received heavy support from organized labor were preparing to introduce an amendment to the city's ethics ordinance that would restrict union contributions in city elections.
