UAW rejects offer by Delphi
Labor relations at Delphi Corp. are back in the spotlight as the United Auto Workers wraps up its annual meeting in Detroit. The union has rejected a contract offer from the parts supplier, jeopardizing a deal that could help Delphi emerge from bankruptcy this year. The move also raises the specter of a strike that could hobble the recovering General Motors Corp., Delphi's largest customer. Though offering no details, UAW Vice President Cal Rapson termed the proposal "insulting" and said the union is prepared to strike if Delphi voids the contract in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Delphi filed motions to throw out the contract a year ago, but the motions have been put on hold while talks continued.
