More Apply for Jobless Benefits
More people applied for unemployment insurance last week than economists had predicted, and while the number of new claims is less than it was at this time last year, it is only one of several employment statistics that are worse than expected. Hiring is down, while layoffs, the number of people collecting unemployment benefits, and national unemployment are all up.
