Labor-intensive effort
Service workers at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego are facing decertification of their union, just months after winning a hard-fought battle to secure its first-ever labor contract. A vote to decertify would nullify the existing contract which covers 700 of the hospital's 3200 staff and jeopardize prospects of organizing other service workers in the county. Union members describe the atmosphere at the hospital as rancorous, and accuse management of creating discontent among staff towards the union.
