AFTRA musicians lead protest against labels
The union representing over 9,000 sound recording artists have launched an extensive online campaign in protest of what it calls major record labels' unwillingness to negotiate a fair contract. AFTRA, which represents mainly session musicians and singers, has watched its previous contract expire over a month ago with talks for a new contract at a standstill. At issue are disputes over health benefits and pensions, as well as the distribution of royalties from digital sources such as subscription services, downloads and ringtones.
