UAW local leaders support GM deal
UAW local leaders gathered in Detroit today unanimously approved the tentative labor agreement between the UAW and General Motors, a step required before sending the proposal to rank-and-file members consideration, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger announced this afternoon. Gettelfinger made his comments at a Solidarity House news conference after meeting with leaders from locals across the country. Today is the first time the union leadership was to broadly distribute the specifics of a landmark deal that restructures retiree health care, introduces a two-tier wage system and eliminates wage increases for the duration of the 4-year contract.
