14 construction workers in San Francisco are suing Building Materials Holding Corporation for several violations of labor law, including being forced or asked to work unpaid overtime, sign blank timecards, skip breaks and travel long distances without compensation. The workers are seeking class-action status for their suit. If they are successful reparations could be owed to thousands of workers and reach into the millions of dollars. BMHC has denied the allegations, claiming it as part of an effort to unionize the employees and saying, ?BMHC and SelectBuild fully comply with federal and state wage practices and believe this suit is without merit. We intend to defend against it vigorously." Representatives from the Laborers International Union of North America have joined the workers at the proceedings.
