Labor leader to address rally as talks grind to halt
The 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU) will conduct a demonstration today in the midst of frozen negotiations with Kaleida Health System in Buffalo, NY. The parties have not met in more than a month, though the existing contract ? covering 12 bargaining units ? expired May 31st. The dissent between sides centers primarily on disagreements over retirement benefits, with 1199 SEIU members preferring a more costly, but higher coverage union-administered pension plan. The president of 1199 SEIU, George Gresham, will speak at the rally in Buffalo, where the union represents approximately 3,200 Kaleida employees.
