Nokia Strengthens Emerging Market Push, to Cut Jobs
Nokia will eliminate 450 marketing and 130 research jobs, even after revealing new phones and services today as part of the firm's efforts to strengthen its presence in emerging markets. Despite performing better than its peers and growth in newer markets, the firm still faces slowing sales in older markets due to the overall economic slow down. Though Nokia employs around 58,500 people total, the 130-person cut in research jobs amounts to 20% of the workforce at the Nokia research center.
