Virgin Media plans 2,200 job cuts
Virgin Media announced plans today to cut 2,200 jobs over the next four years, in order to ensure that the company remains competitive. The cuts represent about 15% of the Virgin Media workforce, though they are not scheduled to begin until the fourth quarter of next year. Chief Executive Neil Berkett says the layoffs are ?critical to ensuring Virgin Media is positioned to compete effectively and deliver on our customers? changing expectations.? The company plans to eliminate redundancies, and hopes to offer employees alternative positions wherever possible. The company expects to save $186.4 million over the next four years, as it works to refinance $4.3 billion dollars in debt. The layoffs come on the heels of another 4,000 cuts made in 2005.
