Workers sue LAX Hilton alleging labor law violations
Employees of the Hilton Los Angeles Airport filed a lawsuit against the hotel yesterday, claiming the hotel had violated labor law by not allowing for breaks or paying employees for overtime hours. The lawsuit covers about 1,500 present and former employees of the hotel. The employees allege that the hotel stays understaffed so that there is no time to takes break, and then disciplines those who don?t write their breaks on their time cards, whether or not the breaks were actually taken. Randy Renick, the attorney representing the employees, seeks to obtain breaks and back pay for the workers, and force the hotel to pay penalties for labor law violation. Hospitality union Unite Here has been trying to organize workers at the airport hotels for years, but the hotels have been less than cooperative. However, two of the four main hotels have recently agreed to negotiations with newly-organized workers.
